Important Health and Safety Information
Please read these health and safety warnings before using vrOS (Virtual Reality Operating System). These warnings are designed to ensure safe use of our VR software and compliance with general VR safety guidelines.
General Precautions
Consult Your Physician
- Before using VR: Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, elderly, have pre-existing binocular vision abnormalities or psychiatric disorders, suffer from a heart condition or other serious medical condition.
- Seizure Warning: Some people (about 1 in 4000) may have severe dizziness, seizures, epileptic seizures or blackouts triggered by light flashes or patterns while using VR, even if they have never had a seizure or blackout before.
Age Restrictions
- vrOS is not recommended for children under the age of 13
- Adults should monitor children (age 13 and older) during and after use for any of the symptoms described below
- Prolonged use should be avoided, as this could negatively impact hand-eye coordination, balance, and multi-tasking ability
Safe Environment
Clear Your Play Space
Before using vrOS:
- Ensure your play area is clear of furniture, objects, stairs, balconies, windows, walls, and other hazards
- Remember that while in VR, you may not be aware of your surroundings
- vrOS boundary systems can help, but are not foolproof
- Never use VR outdoors or near roads, water, or other dangerous areas
Stay Seated When Possible
- vrOS is designed to work excellently while seated
- Many productivity features are optimized for seated use
- Standing use increases risk of loss of balance and falls
Health Warnings
Motion Sickness
Virtual Reality can cause motion sickness in some users. Symptoms include:
- Nausea
- Discomfort
- Disorientation
- Headache
- Fatigue
If you experience any discomfort:
- Stop using vrOS immediately
- Remove your headset
- Rest until symptoms subside
- Do not drive or operate machinery until fully recovered
Eye Strain and Fatigue
Extended use may cause:
- Eye strain
- Eye fatigue
- Eye discomfort
- Blurred vision
Prevention:
- Take a 10-15 minute break every 30 minutes
- vrOS includes built-in break reminders (enable in Settings)
- Adjust headset IPD (interpupillary distance) settings
- Ensure proper headset fit
Repetitive Stress Injuries
Like other computer use, VR may cause:
- Muscle, joint, or skin discomfort
- Tingling, numbness, burning or stiffness
If symptoms occur:
- Stop and rest for several hours
- Consult a doctor if symptoms persist
vrOS-Specific Safety Features
Ergonomic Enforcement
- vrOS automatically prevents overlays from being placed in positions that require uncomfortable neck angles
- The system enforces regular micro-breaks
- Haptic warnings alert you when approaching boundaries
Comfort Settings
- Motion smoothing options to reduce nausea
- Adjustable overlay distances for eye comfort
- Customizable break reminders
- Seated mode optimizations
Emergency Exit
- Press and hold both grip buttons for 3 seconds to instantly close all overlays
- System Menu button always accessible for quick exit
- Automatic pause when headset is removed
Best Practices
- Start Slowly: Begin with short sessions (15-30 minutes) and gradually increase
- Stay Hydrated: Keep water nearby
- Good Posture: Maintain proper seated posture
- Proper Lighting: Ensure your room has adequate lighting
- Clean Equipment: Keep lenses clean for optimal clarity
- Listen to Your Body: Stop immediately if you feel unwell
Medical Conditions
Do NOT use vrOS if you have:
- Epilepsy or seizure disorders (without medical clearance)
- Severe motion sickness susceptibility
- Serious heart conditions
- Psychiatric disorders that may be aggravated by VR
Interference with Medical Devices
VR headsets may contain magnets or emit radio waves that could affect:
- Cardiac pacemakers
- Hearing aids
- Defibrillators
- Other medical devices
Consult your physician and device manufacturer before use.
